Elton John is recovering from a scary eye issue.
The "Your Song" singer shared that over the past few months he has been dealing with "a severe eye infection" that has left him with only "limited vision in one eye."
"I am healing," Elton posted to Instagram Sep. 3, "but it's an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye."
The 77-year-old thanked his doctors and his family—including husband David Furnish and sons Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11—for taking care of him as he's been on the mend for the past few weeks.
"I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home," he added, "and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far."
Elton's friends and fans were quick to share their get well wishes for the "I'm Still Standing" singer, with Billy Porter commenting, "Sending you all the love and peace that's possible."
Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham added, "Sending golden, healing vibes Elton," while Bernie Taupin—Elton's longtime lyricist and collaborator—wrote, "Get back on track good buddy."
Elton's illness comes amid the Grammy-winner's retirement from touring, as he wrapped up his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour last summer. And as David explained, Elton's decision stemmed from his desire to spend more time at home with their children.
"We've got our sons," the 61-year-old told Entertainment Tonight in June. "They're getting into their teenage years now. We don't want to miss anything. We want to be present for that. It's sort of a key decade in a child's life."
As David noted, Elton has "been doing it for like 60 years. So it's nice to have that time to spend at home with family."
And Elton—who achieved EGOT status this year with his 2023 Emmy win—is also happy with his choice.
"The last show in Stockholm on the farewell tour after Glastonbury," he explained, "I got in the car and went: 'Yes! yes!' We went out on the biggest high, just the way I wanted to, and there's no going back [after] that."
