A Michigan man owes his life to his loyal dog and the quick thinking of a police officer after he fell through the ice on a frozen lake Thursday.
A witness called emergency services around 11:45 am after seeing the man plunge into the icy waters of East Bay Township. When Motor Carrier Officer Kammeron Bennetts arrived, he found the man struggling in the frigid water with his dog, Ruby, beside him on the ice.

After failing to reach the man with a rescue disc, Bennetts called the dog over and attached the disc to her collar to pass to her owner. And with Ruby's help, Bennetts and a firefighter were able to pull the man safely back to shore.
Miraculously, despite having spent 16 minutes submerged in the frigid water, the man was treated at a local hospital and released later that day.
