Brittany Mahomes knows exactly how to bounce back now.
After the Sports Illustrated model—who shares kids Sterling, 3, and Bronze, 20 months, with Patrick Mahomes and is pregnant with their third baby—fractured her back earlier this year, she detailed the best ways to recover after giving birth.
“Pelvic floor therapy and really focus on your breathing techniques or you will get injured,” Brittany explained on the Whoop podcast Aug. 28, going on to describe her own injury experience. “I obviously worked out my whole life so I had kids and then I’m like, ‘Oh I’ll just keep working out how I’ve always worked out, I’m fine.’ Well, I hurt my back.”
And Brittany admitted that it took her back fracture—which she first opened up about in March—for her to take the low impact exercises seriously.
“I went to therapy, went to chiropractor, went and got X-Rays,” she recalled. “In the end, a lot of people talk about pelvic floor therapy and strengthening your pelvic floor after you have kids and how important that is. So obviously, I started to do more of that because I was injured and that’s kind of what my therapy was.”
The 28-year-old also emphasized that she wanted her fans to learn from her own mistakes.
“People out there need to know that it’s important to work on your breathing and your core techniques while you’re working out, versus lifting heavy weights and just going through the motions,” she added. “It starts with the inside, especially once you’ve had kids. That’s really big for me nowadays, I’ve learned my lesson.”
Brittany may have taken on a bit too much too quickly after she had her and the Kansas City Chiefs player’s 20-month old, but she’s given some recovery updates along the way.
“I'm living my best life,” she explained to E! News in May. “My back is no longer broken, so that's good.”
And earlier this month, the Kansas City Current coowner shared her excitement over a gym milestone amid recovery.
“First time to back squat in probably like over a year since dealing with my back injury,” she wrote in an Aug. 19 Instagram Story. “Felt sooooo good!”
