The music community is in mourning.
Rich Homie Quan—a rapper known for songs like "Ride Out" and "Type of Way"—died on Sept. 5, a family member and a rep for the Fulton County Morgue confirmed to TMZ on Sept. 5. He was 34.
Quan—whose real name was Dequantes Devontay Lamar—died in his Atlanta home. His family told TMZ that they are shattered and heartbroken by his sudden passing and will be searching for answers.
The investigation surrounding Quan's death is still ongoing, per TMZ.
E! News has reached out to Quan's reps and to the Fulton County Morgue, but has not heard back.
Born in Atlanta, Quan first earned mainstream success with his 2013 single "Type of Way," which reached No. 50 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
Two years later, he earned a nomination for Best Group at the 2015 BET Awards as a member of the hip-hop collective Rich Gang alongside Young Thug.
And while the "Walk Thru" rapper was passionate about performing, he previously shared that he's not someone who cares for attention to be on him.
"When I'm on stage, I love the moment," he told Revolt in an interview published July 2. "After that, I go out of character and I'm back to being a regular human being."
He also told the outlet that he hopes his legacy—especially in the Atlanta trap music scene—would continue with the new music he was working on at the time.
"Remember me as an original," he said. "As [an] artist who did it his way. Remember me as a hard kid from Atlanta with a dream, who believed in himself and bettered himself—and won."
Following Quan's passing, his friend and fellow rapper Boosie Badazz reflected on their close bond in a touching tribute.
"JUST TALKED TO YOU BRA," he wrote on X Sept. 5. "Never go forget yo smile n the way talked n of course yo music"
Boosie added in another post, "WE GOT SOME GOOD ASS MEMORIES TOGETHER N THAT GO ALWAYS BRING A SMILE TO MY FACE #restupquan WE WAS COOKING UP SOME S--T TOO."
Quan's fans also posted their memories of the rapper, with one noting he was "An ATL legend," and another writing, "'Krazy hits different now… Damn @RichHomieQuan! Rest In Paradise."
